The story behind CMAE

CMAE or Commercial & Military Aeronautics Enthusiasts, is a worldwide group of people connected through Facebook sharing aviation content with the lovers of the subject. At the time of writing this article the group has eight pages and four groups on Facebook plus lesser used services such as Instagram, YouTube etc.

The group was founded in May 2014 by Ronnie Oliver, whom is still the leader of the group. The group started with Oliver working on the CMAE Boeing page, then growing into more pages as other users joined in with their pages and CMAE became what it is today. When it comes to names the group was previously called BEPGA (Boeing Expansion Plan Global Admins) which was mainly the name of the admin chat.

Over the years several of the pages changed name due to problems with Facebook, where pages like “Lockheed” and “Bombardier” changed to “Military Aviation Enthusiasts” and “Regional Aircraft Lovers”. The reason for these changes was mainly as Facebook didn’t recognize them as fan pages, and partially because we wanted to have broader pages with more variation. These problems with Facebook started with us losing our “Cessna” page with no warning forehand. This was one of our biggest pages and was for us a huge loss.

Statistically speaking CMAE has grown to become quite large and now we have around 150 000 likes on our pages and around 30 000 members in our groups. The current number of admins working on the pages is now at 30 people, where 5 of these are a part of the management team which is the highest authority of CMAE. Historically CMAE have had around 50-60 different people working with the pages and a total of 28 different nationalities.
